WHAT IS A LIBRARY OF
THINGS?
A Library of Things (LoT) works in just the same way as a regular
book library. Instead of books, it contains things. Your LoT can
have whatever you want in it, from tools, gardening equipment,
musical instruments, school uniforms, toys, or anything else
your community needs.
A LoT should serve the needs of your community and will
generally do more than just lend items out. A LoT is often a hub
for its community and may become a meeting place, a place of
learning, and a place for people to run and participate in
training. More on this below.
A LoT is usually set up as a charity, community interest group
or, more rarely, a business. An organisational structure that has
community as its focus is generally preferred, as this can meet
the needs and desires of a village, town or other community
better.
