Running a repair café
Catering and Entertainment
With it being a repair café, the minimum is teas and coffees, but it is also a
good idea to have sandwiches/soup and cakes. These can be sold to cover
some costs. If participants need to wait, this will make them more
comfortable.
Other entertainment which has been tried and tested are to have books
(comics and short reading is best) and live music. Ask volunteers and
associates if anybody wants to do it to keep costs down.
During the Event
Set up the ‘repair stations’, reception desk and waiting area. Ensure all
staff and volunteers have been briefed about the event and have signed
the risk assessment.
Check for any trip hazards if running cables and tape them down where
possible. Ensure all paperwork is in place – risk assessments/participant
management sheets (see below), photo consent forms, etc. If you are
weighing items to keep a record of weight/carbon savings, have the scales
ready on the front desk too.
Have luggage scales and a bag for weighing awkward items as well as an
accurate set of kitchen scales for smaller items.
