Running a repair café
Before the event
Staff and volunteers
The first consideration is to know what skills your volunteers/repairers
have and how many you have. It is a good idea to secure a sewing and
mending volunteer, some who has practical woodworking skills, tool
sharpening and above all, 2 or 3 who have experience with electronics –
this is by far the most popular request for repairs. Items should be PAT
tested before the customer leaves.
You will also need 2 or three people to run the front desk.
Find a suitable venue.
A venue should have enough space for a reception desk, waiting area
including space for catering, a large room for repairers or small rooms to
split electronics and sewing - for example, space for entertainment
(optional).
The venue will need good access to power throughout.
